Sam,
There are many places to look for examples - here are the forst 3 off the top of my bookmark page.
- http://www.mysql.com/
Or freshmeat.com is a good place to see completed projects to try to reverse engineer and learn some things.
But you don't say where you are having problems. I think to bulid a website like you describe you need 3 distinct skills:
- Database design to build the db
- Web Page Design (only to the HTML layer)
- PHP (the glue to connect to the DB and output HTML)
If you're missing any one of these your project will be hard (OK if you're only missing the Web Page design your project might only be ugly or unreadable).
If you'd like it I could post a sample page that would connect to a MySQL DB but without the DB design it won't do much.

I hate to even ask, but I am in a bit of a fix-and SO frustrated! I am newish to php/mysql, etc. and so I bought the Site Point book on building a database driven site-and here I am 2 months later still confused (it is a great book-don't get me wrong).
What I am wanting to build is a page that displays either a recipe of the week or a random recipe-with a search function to search the database for a particular recipe-is there an online walk thru tutorial or open source type script that anyone know of that I could use? I hate to ask for help, but I am really not as good as I thought I'd be :-( I have read SO much on the subject that I am no longer retaining much information, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
