Sorry but, market share does not a good (*secure*) program make. Let's take windows for example. In the desktop arena, it has a fairly substantial market share. However, with the abundance in users it seems to enjoy, it's still rather insecure. Who pays for that? you do. Now, if you don't know any better that's one thing. When you do, that's another thing entirely.

I don't get this point in terms of PHPNuke - there are -plenty- of other php based CMS' out there. PostNuke, Xaraya, eNvolution, Xooops, ad infinitum. ALL of these systems, while they have their faults, are more secure by leaps and bounds - not to mention actually developed by software engineers instead of code hacks 9 times out of 10.

Well, I'd rather call you niether and just *hope* that you make a decision based on security and quality - not because of "herd mentality."

Ultimately it's up to you what you go with. I personally would just prefer to see less sites supporting an application that does more harm to the widespread acceptance of PHP than good. And believe me, that's *exactly* what phpnuke has done. Many companies of brushed off php as a viable commercial solution due to hearing of it's purported lack of security by way of PHPNuke's MANY security bugs. Thanks to the works of other great projects however, this myth beginning to be dispelled.

When choosing a suitable application for deployment, you should never make light of it's inherent security problems.
